“Women Facing Women: Sisters in Dialogue”
A Diversity Workshop

“Spring and Summer of 2002

These gatherings focused on a cross-cultural women’s dialogue. The dialogue group occurred over a three-month time period and included twelve women of African-American, European-American, Japanese-American, and bi-racial descent. Themes emerging from the dialogues included the effects of 1) negative self-images, 2) discrimination and prejudice related to race and class, 3) white guilt, 4) internal and external senses of power, 5) historical context, and 6) the interplay of cultural borrowing and stealing.

“Women Journeying Within”

Co-sponsored by 2000+ Bookstore

In October 2002, the organization hosted a weekend retreat featuring Judith Duerk, author of “Circle of Stones”. It was a weekend filled with celebrating the feminine voice. In this retreat a deep silence was created vast enough to contain the many facets of our lives a s women: sadness and joy, softness and power, descent and reemergence, longing and truth, darkness and wisdom.

“How might your life have been different if there had been a place for you?   A place to for you to go... A place of women, to help you learn the ways of women... A place where you were nurtured from an ancient flow... sustaining you as you sought to become yourself. A place of women to help you find and trust the ancient flow already within yourself... Waiting to be released... A place of women...How might life be different?”  Judith Duerk, author of ‘Circle of Stones’

Women Transforming Communities

For women to transform families and communities

we must use our voice.

We must be heard in the world.

All women must know that our lives have a PURPOSE and our VOICE is essential to the world.

Yet, it often takes a great deal of courage

for us to use our voice.

We often struggle

against the effects of systems long used to silence women.

The experience of not being heard in the world

has created a sense of ALIENATION among many,

the feeling of being separate from others.

We have begun to question our necessity in the world and as a result

we now question the necessity of others.

As we have been silenced,

so we silence others

when we fail to hear the cries of suffering and dreams of those who feel crushed under the weight of hopelessness.

If there is truly to be a shift toward the HEALING of our communities and culture,

women must raise their voices, acknowledge others, and be an INSPIRATION for other women to be heard as well.  Only then will true transformation occur.

Renewing Ourselves,

Reflecting Our Vision

Sept 7-9, 2007

For the 3rd  Multicultural Women’s  Conference

Women of all ages have enormous power in the world as leaders. The world cannot do without the vital energy and imagination we bring to peace and justice efforts. In order to turn our visions into realities, we need to step  fully into the power we carry. This requires two simultaneous movements: we must rebirth and reclaim our authentic voices as well as build support systems that propel us forward. We will come together in community on September 7th to explore how we see  ourselves and each other as well as how we can be leaders in our families, work, community, and the world.
